Conference Sponsorship

Carp farming is one of the most important and historical components of the aquaculture sector. Common carp is geographically a widespread fish that native to the Palearctic region, but today it generates a multi-billion industry in the world. Outside of Asia, Central, and Eastern Europe is the region where Common carp play an important role in aquaculture production.

The first International Carp Conference was organized by Polish Farmers Association in Kazimiers Dolny, Poland in 2011. The members of organising committee come from the most significant carp producer countries as Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Romania, Croatia, and Austria. The conferences are also traditionally attended by producers and professionals from Serbia, Slovenia, and France. Hungary was welcomed as the next place of the conference, however, COVID-19 restrictions prevented it from taking place on time. So finally, the 6th International Carp Conference, which is traditionally a two-day event, will be held in 2023 between the 31st of August and the 1st of September in Szarvas, Hungary

The Hungarian co-organisers, the Hungarian Fisheries and Aquaculture Inter-branch Organisation (MA-HAL) and The Research Center for Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE HAKI) are proud to host the 6th International Carp Conference. They believe that Szarvas is an excellent site for this event. Here, in the valley of the river Körös, there has been a long tradition of fisheries and pond aquaculture. Common carp have always been the most important fish species in this region and the “Szarvas” carp strains have played an important role in Hungarian fish culture. The research institute has been carrying out successful research in the field of sustainable intensification of aquaculture for many years.

Although the main aim of the Carp Conferences has not changed significantly in the last 12 years, the current conference has some specific features. One of them is the holistic approach of carp aquaculture to discuss the challenges and opportunities along the whole value chain. At this year’s conference, after the keynote speeches, producers from the participating countries, industry stakeholders, researchers, and leaders of international aquaculture organisations will jointly propose solutions to the challenges facing European carp production and the development of the sector in thematic panel discussions. Besides European participants, professionals from China and Central Asia will also attend the conference underlining the global nature of carp production. At the end of the conference, the participants will approve the Szarvas Declaration and the conclusions of the conference will be published in print with the support of EIFAAC.
