The US Open is the final Grand Slam event of the year. It runs for two weeks from Aug. 24 to Sept. 7. It’s played on outdoor hard courts at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York City. The tournament has been held there since 1978.
The 2025 US Open will feature men’s and women’s singles, as well as men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. It will be the 107th edition of the tournament, which started in 1881 and moved to Flushing Meadows in 1978. It has a rich tradition of great players, including champions Chris Evert and Serena Williams.
US Open matchups begin with qualifying matches on Monday, Aug. 18. The main draw begins on Sunday, Aug. 24, with the women’s and men’s quarterfinals on Sept. 2. The men’s and women’s finals will be held on Sept. 7 and 8.
The US Open is a 14-day tournament, but it is often overshadowed by the NFL season’s Week 1 opener on Monday. That’s a shame because it’s a great tournament to watch and the US Open has been a pinnacle of the sport for decades. One solution is to move it up by a day, which wouldn’t require any major restructuring of the schedule. It would also give fans the chance to see more marquee matches on Arthur Ashe and some of the outer court venues. That’s a change the tour might be willing to make if it meant making the US Open more of a priority.
