For two weeks late in August, the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens becomes tennis’s center of the world. The US Open begins Sunday and will be played over the next 16 days, with the final Grand Slam of the season wrapping up Sept. 7. Here are some things to know as the tournament gets underway.
Ticket availability and prices continue to evolve over the course of the week as the tournament gets closer. The USTA typically holds back on releasing all available tickets initially and tends to release more in the days/weeks ahead of the event. This can often drive down average resale prices, particularly for higher-tier tickets.
Top seeds Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka both begin with challenging matchups. Djokovic opens on Arthur Ashe Stadium against rising American talent Learner Tien. Meanwhile, Sabalenka will likely face a difficult path that includes the likes of Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz.
The US Open also features a number of other intriguing matches. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz both enter the tournament ranked No. 1 and No. 2 and will likely meet in the semifinals if they make it that far (Sinner won Wimbledon, Alcaraz the French Open).
Other matches worth watching include wildcard entrant Venus Williams taking on Karolina Muchova and Coco Gauff facing Barbora Krejcikova. In doubles, Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula will hope to reclaim their spots in the top 10. Top-ranked juniors and incredible collegiate players also have the chance to shine.
